Clientele
The Children Program helps children with significant and persistent difficulties in one or more of the following areas:
- Children between 0 and 7 years of age with a significant and persistent hearing loss who require services in English or ASL (American Sign Language)
- Children between 0 and 7 years of age with significant vision loss
- Children between 0 and 7 years of age diagnosed with stuttering
- Children between 0 and 7 years of age diagnosed with a motor impairment
- Preschoolers with language impairment, apraxia of speech or who are believed to have these impairments
- Preschoolers with significant and persistent delays in at least two areas of their development
- Children between 5 and 7 years of age with significant and persistent motor delays not related to a cognitive or intellectual impairment
- Children between 5 and 7 years of age diagnosed with a developmental coordination disorder
Program objectives
- Maximize the child’s potential and autonomy in their daily activities
- Integrate the child into the daycare or school
- Guide children and their families with regard to the necessary adaptations depending on the child’s needs in their different living environments
- Guide parents in supporting their child’s development
Services offered
- Assessment of the child’s functional and developmental level if necessary.
- Interventions that help meet the child and family’s functional objectives within the framework of the program’s objectives
- Complete before and after cochlear implant rehabilitation program which includes:
- Eligibility assessment and support in requesting surgery
- Programming
- Intensive Functional Rehabilitation (IFR)
- Technical support for cochlear implant

- Multiple Impairment Team: As the only CIUSSS on the Island of Montreal providing services for 4 physical impairments (language, motor, auditory and visual), this specialized team delivers integrated services to children with significant impairments in several areas.
- Psychosocial support and counselling for the child and family with regard to the child’s physical impairments
- Consultation and support for integration into daycare, school, and leisure activities
- Workshops for parents on various topics
- Assessment, counselling and training in the use of technical aids or computer aids if needed
