Clientele

  • People of all ages with a sensorineural or persistent conductive hearing loss requiring assistive devices
  • Persons of all ages with a vision loss requiring the use of assistive devices
  • Already receiving services or not at the Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre (deaf or heard of hearing)
  • Already receiving services at the Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre (blind or visually impaired)

Services offered

  • Validation of needs, consultation and assistance in choosing devices
  • Showroom
  • Allocation of assistive listening devices
  • Installation of technical devices, if required
  • Instruction as to use of the devices
  • Repair and technical support services
  • Sale and repair of accessories
  • Technical Aids Boutique
  • Allocation of assistive devices
  • Repair and technical support services
  • Training with regards to the use of assistive devices is provided by professionals from the vision rehabilitation programs at Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay

Available devices

  • Environmental control systems such as flashing lights for telephones or doorbells
  • Text transmission devices such as telephone typewriters or closed captioning for television
  • Sound transmission devices such as personal or telephone amplifiers
  • Reading aids: optical aids, digital readers, closed-circuit televisions (CCTV), etc.
  • Writing aids: braillers, slates and stylus, felt pens, lined pads, etc.
  • Mobility aids: white canes, cane tips, sunglasses, identification tags, etc.
  • Adapted computer aids: braille displays, print magnification software, sight-substitution software, etc.

  • Satellite Office at the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital in Laval

To request services

  • attestation of permanent hearing lost from an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist
  • audiogram (< 1 year) with recommendations from an audiologist with regards to the necessary listening devices;
  • completion of  Request for services form

All clients must meet RAMQ eligibility criteria and be formally assessed by LLMRC staff before accessing vision aids.

Eligibility for the RAMQ funding program for aids and devices for the visually impaired require that a client have a visual acuity in the better eye after correction of <20/70 or <6/21, or whose visual field in each eye is less than 60° in the 180° or 90° meridians after correction with the appropriate ophthalmic lenses.
